Enshrouded Magic Chests and Quick Stack: A Practical Storage Setup

Enshrouded Early AccessPublished 4 min readEnshroudedstoragecrafting

Early Access · reviewed September 11, 2026. Steam 1.0 is scheduled for October 15.

A useful storage room makes returning home quick: unload familiar materials, inspect unfamiliar loot, resupply, and leave. Start with a small system you understand, then expand it as the number of materials you actually use grows.

Normal chests, Magic Chests, and Quick Stack

Ordinary chests hold inventory. Magic Chests also make their materials available to supported crafting interactions nearby. Early chests are made at the Workbench, while the Carpenter expands your storage options.

The Quick Stack Station transfers backpack items into matching stacks in nearby Magic Chests. It is a convenient way to unload an established system, rather than a replacement for deciding where a new material belongs.

Part of the setupOur suggested job
Everyday Magic ChestsMaterials used repeatedly for crafting and building
Quick Stack StationUnload returning supplies into their existing destinations
Review chestHold unfamiliar equipment or materials until you decide what to do with them
Clearly marked reserveKeep the next project's shopping list visible and accounted for

These categories are an organizational recommendation. Name or arrange them in a way that makes sense to you; the game does not require this particular layout.

Start with one working Magic Chest

The Small Magic Chest recipe uses 1 Small Chest, 15 Shroud Spores, and 15 Active Mycelium at the Workbench. Its recipe becomes available after rescuing the Blacksmith.

For its ordinary-chest component, the Small Chest recipe requires 6 Nails and 6 Wood Logs.

Shroud Spores can be obtained from weaker Shroud creatures. Active Mycelium comes from glowing blue patches, primarily in the Shroud. Treat them as different materials when you read the recipe; similar names are an easy reason to return with the wrong supply.

Our recommendation is to verify the first chest at the place you intend to craft. Put a familiar crafting material into it, return to the relevant interaction, and inspect whether that material is available. Repeat from another floor if you plan a multilevel workshop. Establish the layout through these short checks before constructing a large storage tower around an assumed distance.

Crafting a Quick Stack Station

The Carpenter or Carpenter Assistant crafts the following versions:

StationIngredients
Quick Stack Station1 Shroud Core, 2 Goo, 5 Revelwood Stone
Large Quick Stack Station1 Shroud Core, 2 Goo, 10 Limestone

If Goo is your obstacle, check the Alchemist's Mortar and Bug Dust progression. The Goo recipe uses 1 Bug Dust, 2 Shroud Mushrooms, and 1 Springlands Dirt; its crafting unlock follows making Bug Dust.

You can follow that dependency in the survivors and crafting stations guide. For Shroud Cores, see the acquisition section in our Flame Altar guide.

Build the system in a small, testable order

Our recommended setup:

  1. Put the station where you naturally arrive or enter the workshop.
  2. Arrange the everyday Magic Chests nearby with clear walking access.
  3. Place a representative material in its intended destination chest.
  4. Carry more of that material and use the station.
  5. Inspect the backpack and destination chest to confirm the result.
  6. Add the next category only after the first transfer behaves as expected.

Magic Chests have an option to accept or reject automatic deposits. Building can also draw materials directly from Magic Chests through the material-selection interface.

Check the deposit setting on every chest that should participate. Rejecting automatic deposits is a sorting choice, not a lock against other players. For a shared base, discuss who uses each reserve and manage access through the host's server role settings.

Why an item might remain in your backpack

Use the following as a troubleshooting sequence, checking one condition at a time:

What you observeWhat to check next
One unfamiliar material stays behindGive it a deliberate destination and establish a matching stack
A familiar material stops transferringInspect available space and its intended destination
Nothing transfers to one chestConfirm it is a Magic Chest and accepts automatic deposits
Transfers work in one position but not anotherMove the station or chest closer and repeat the same small test
A friend cannot use the setupReview their role and permitted container access

Do not treat every leftover item as a bug. A review step is useful for equipment, new ingredients, and anything you deliberately kept out of automatic sorting. After unloading, look at what remains and decide whether to keep it for the next expedition, store it, or recycle it after comparison.

Make the return-to-base routine repeatable

Our suggested routine is: unload, review loot, check production, pack food, and repair or upgrade the equipment needed next. Keep the review chest small enough that it gets cleared regularly instead of becoming a second unsorted backpack.

For equipment decisions, use gear upgrades and runes. For kitchen supplies, follow food and farming. Save the next storage improvement in the adventure planner, and browse the rest of the series in the Enshrouded hub.
