An oil base should solve a crafting shortage. If the extractor keeps stopping, adding more extractors can leave you with more expensive machinery and the same shortage. Start by proving that one machine can keep running, then expand around the part of the line that actually limits production.

Which crude oil extractor should you build?
The regular extractor needs an oil field. The High-Pressure model works without a field, but needs open ground with no structure underneath and consumes more electricity. The following unlocks and construction materials apply to v1.0.4.

The same data lists electricity consumption of 2,000 versus 3,000 internal energy units per second: the High-Pressure model uses 50% more. These are game-data units, not a promise about how many generators a particular team can support.
Our recommendation: use a regular extractor when you already have a good oil-field base. Consider High-Pressure when moving your existing production base would cost more effort than supporting its extra demand. Its placement freedom does not make the electricity problem disappear.
Patch v1.0.3 reduced extractor and Large Power Generator construction costs, increased oil production speed, and allowed the High-Pressure model to satisfy the extractor-building base mission. Old material lists and oil-per-hour estimates can therefore mislead returning players.
Plan the site before spending materials
For oil alongside other materials, start with the mixed resource location finder. The Land of Absolute Zero peninsula at (141, 416) is reported with Oil, Pure Quartz, Ore, Coal and Stone together; inspect which deposits actually fit your boundary.
For Hexolite Quartz plus Oil, scout (-1067, -1428) or the western Feybreak beach at (-1331, -1288). These are older base-tour locations, so check the deposits and extractor footprint before moving. Three oil fields at one location still supply only one resource type.
For a regular extractor, inspect an oil node in your own world before choosing the site. Check whether your intended Palbox placement leaves enough room for the machine, workers and storage.
Walk the site before building. Identify where workers will stand, where you will collect output, and how you will approach with a loaded inventory. Avoid treating the outer edge of the base as free industrial space: leave yourself room to reposition equipment during troubleshooting.
For a High-Pressure setup, keep the intended footprint clear of foundations. Start with an uncluttered patch of ground rather than trying to fit the machine into a finished decorative building. You can improve the surrounding appearance after production works.
Write down three things before committing: which extractor you can unlock, which materials you already own, and which electricity worker you will assign. If the unlock itself is the blocker, use the Technology Points guide before gathering a second pile of construction materials.
Build the smallest working oil line
This is our suggested construction order:
- Build one extractor. Confirm its placement and finish construction before adding another.
- Provide a generator and a suitable worker. Watch the Pal actually begin generating electricity; a worker listed at the base is not proof that it is doing this job.
- Give the worker a short, clear route to food and rest. Keep those facilities easy to inspect while the layout is new.
- Check the extractor's output directly. Confirm oil exists before diagnosing a transport problem.
- Arrange storage and transport. Follow the oil from the machine to its destination instead of assuming an empty chest means nothing was produced.
- Run your usual crafting workload. A base that powers an extractor while everything else is idle has only passed the first check.
The Large Power Generator unlocks at level 50 and currently costs 150 Pal Metal Ingots and 150 Electric Organs. Its data lists two worker positions.
Choose workers by their actual Generating Electricity suitability and working conditions. Our base-worker guide helps compare candidates, but an excellent worker with poor access or frequent interruptions can still leave the generator unattended.
Diagnose the symptom you can see

Treat these as diagnostic tests, not guaranteed fixes. Change one condition, watch the result, and keep the change only when it resolves the symptom. If several buildings lose workers at once, move to the broader base Pals troubleshooting guide.
Measure demand across an ordinary session
A full charge bar can hide a shortage for a while. Our recommendation is to compare the beginning and end of a normal production session, including meals and whatever other electric equipment you regularly use.
Record the number of operating extractors, generator workers, starting oil and ending oil. Keep those conditions the same when comparing a different worker or layout. If oil is being consumed by crafting during the check, count that consumption too; otherwise the final inventory understates production.
Use a simple decision rule: expand when the existing line meets your current demand without repeated intervention. If you have to recall workers or collect stranded output every few minutes, spend the next materials on fixing that interruption.
Expand toward a particular crafting goal
Choose the next item you need and calculate its oil requirement from the recipe in your game. Then decide whether your bottleneck is oil, another ingredient, refining, or the final crafting station. An oil surplus does not help a furnace waiting on something else.
For a one-off upgrade, an oil-rig run may fit your session better than rebuilding a base. For repeated crafting, improving the existing production line becomes more attractive. Keep your ore and metal supply in the same plan.
